2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Lead to Boost Struggling Hero Shooter Project Ethos
2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Shift Follows Mixed Feedback
Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a distinct game identity.
The president stated that the team is now overhauling the project with a renewed vision, aiming to address player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Hires
This announcement mirrors a similar move taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the full text from the president's memo:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and talented developers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to persist.”
Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It revealed the need for a clearer vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the feedback to consideration and revamped the title with a renewed vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our audience.
The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To boost the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the incoming Director of 31st Union. Following a period of talks, he starts with us on next week.
Ben’s guidance and expertise in the PVP shooter field is considerable, having spent the recent years producing and overseeing some of the most well-known series in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in greeting Ben next week. We are all looking forward to keep witnessing the evolution of the game in the time to follow.
The President
Experience of the New Leader
The appointee presently holds the role of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, prior to that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Title Information and Vision
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year alongside a early access event. Then, the developers described the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative advancement on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary reads. "Face the opponents with fresh skills, risks, and tests that shift every session. Do you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, gamble everything, and pray your team can achieve the highest spot? The decision is up to you."
Project Ethos has not yet received an official debut schedule or consoles, but players can look forward to further news as creation progresses.
